Iberia flies
to Valencia from Barcelona, Madrid, Málaga,
and other cities. There are also flights between Palma
de Majorca and Valencia. The airport is 14.5km
(9 miles) southwest of the city. Cercanías trains
run between the airport and the main train station
within Valencia every half an hour during the day.

TRAIN
Estacion del Norte, Calle de Jativa, (tel. 96 352 0202 or 90 224 0202 at Calle
Renfe 7am-9pm) is the main station and close to the centre of the city.
Services run to all parts of Spain including Madrid (9-10 daily, 4 hours on the
high-speed Alaris trains or 6 hours via Cuenca), Barcelona (12 daily, 3-5 hours
via Tarragona – includes the highspeed Euromed and TALGO),
and Alicante (7 daily), and Malaga (9 hours).

BUS
Buses run from the Estació Terminal d'Autobuses station 2km outside of
the city centre on Avenida de Menendez Pidal. It takes about 30 minutes to walk
to the city centre from here. The contact number for the station is tel. 96 349
7222. A useful bus route is no. 8 which runs fom the station to Plaza del Ayuntamiento
where the tourist office and city centre is. Buses run from here to Barcelona
(6 daily - 5 hours), Madrid (10-12 daily - 4 hours), Malaga (5 daily - 8 hours)
and Alicante (12 daily).

HITCHING
Valencia should be a relatively easy place to hitch from especially to places
nearby. Head to the roads leaving town.

DRIVING
If you're driving south from Barcelona take the express highway (E-15). From
Madrid in the northwest you can also use a national highway, E-901. From Alicante,
take the E-15 express highway north. From Andalusia the roads are longer, more
difficult, and not connected by express highways. It is possible to drive from
Málaga north to Granada and then cut across southeastern Spain on the
342, which links with the 340 into Murcia. From there, take the road to Alicante
for an easy drive into Valencia. The Barcelona-Valencia toll is 18€.

Ferries to Palma de Majorca (Balearic Islands)
take 6 hours. For Ibiza ferries leave Valencia at midnight Thursday through Tuesday
from June 15 to September 15. Travel agents in Valencia sell tickets, or buy
them from the Transmediterránea office at the port, Estació Marítim
(tel. 90-245-46-45 ), on the day of your departure. To reach the port, take bus
no. 4 or 19 from the Plaza del Ayuntamiento. Ferries from Majorca to Valencia
leave from Estació Marítim 2. Call tel. 90-245-46-45 for details.
TICKETS
Buy tickets for local buses on board from the conductor or from newsstands or
the station in advance. For long distance journeys you need to buy the ticket
from the station counter.
