Stay at Home hostel ... it's a 20 minute train ride from the centre (but the metro is very cheap) and has a courtyard with lots of chairs and a BBQ, a roof with a hammock, a good kitchen, friendly staff... close to Lidly supermarket (cheap red wine which is actually ok!) and 10 mins walk from the best little tapas restaurant (huge portions) and a cook cocktail bar. It's really laid back and very relaxed ... check it out. Also for vegetarians, eat at Organic in Barri Gotic, Calle de la Junta de Commerciale, 11 ... parallel to La Ramblas. 11 euro for set menu, buffet salad (huge selection), soup, main course and dessert. Or 6.40 euro for just the salads, go at about 2pm because by 2.30pm it's packed to the rafters.

Must stay at Rambutan. Most chill, cool hostel I ever stayed at. Say hi to becka and enjoy her waffles for breakfast and go paragliding with Alex. Cheap beer, fantastic view, great staff and plenty of bathrooms.

If you are looking for a quiet place in the center of albaicin, I recommend Miguel and Miriam's house (tandori55@hotmail.com). I enjoyed the atmosphere and the intimacy ambient.

Barcelona
Like at Home is a little outside the main centre but perfect if you are wanting to relax a little bit out of the hustle and bustle. I really liked the comfortable lounge and excellent choice of reading material, plus a box full of dvd's to watch at the end of a long day. You can check email and cook in the kitchen as well. There is also a really nice garden to hang out in the day and apparently they do BBQs here at night. I did not spend a lot of time in the hostel during the day but it was a comfortable base to look forward to at night.
