Traditional Balearic food reflects all the cultures that have passed through the region over the years including the Greeks, Phoenicians, Romans, Arabs, French and English. Ingredients tend to originate from the fishing industry and seasonal crops. Dishes to look out for include:
Frit mallorquí , coques - made of vegetables or trempó
Caldereta de langosta - seafood with peppers, onions, tomato, garlic and herb-flavored liqueur in Menorca
Perdiz Menorquina - partridge prepared in Menorcan style
Cuscussó - a Christmas dessert of Moorish origin
Flaó - round cake made with eggs and soft cheese
Each of the islands tends to have its own specialities. For example Mallorca features clear soups with noodles, fish/meat and vegetable sauces. Menorca has a lot of seafood dishes and good cheese. All have excellent sausages and sweet desserts.
