 CHURCHES AND TOWERS
Mezquita – Catedral de Cordoba
This is the main attraction in Córdoba. It was built by the Emir of Córdoba in the 8th Century and enlarged over time. At one point it was the world’s largest mosque. In 1236 it was converted into a church and in the 16th century a cathedral was built in the centre of the mosque.

Open Mon-Sat 10am-7.20pm, Sun 2-7pm (earlier in winter)

Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos
This Castle of the Christian Monarchs played an important role in the Spanish Inquistion. It is south-west of the Mezquita and the gardens are filled with towering palms and orange trees and particularly beautiful, and cool on a hot summers day.

Torre de la Calahorra
Across the river from the Mesquita. The Torre houses the Museo Vivo de Al-Andalus with models of the Mezquita and the Alhambra in Granada.

Plaza de Juda Levi

Plaza de la Corredera
Once a bloody scene of gladiators, bullfights and Inquisition burnings, the place now hosts rock concerts, other events and a daily fruit market. On Saturdays there is also a flea market.

Plaza de las Tendillas
The main square in Cordoba is 500m north of the Mezquita.



MUSEUMS AND GALLERIES
Museo de Bellas Artes
Includes works by Cordoban artists, Plaza del Porto. Admission cost applicable.
Plaza de Potro 1

Museo Julio Romero de Torres
Collection of portraits by the artist. Admission cost applicable but free on Friday.

Museo Vivo de Al-Andalus
This museum is housed inside the Torre de la Calahorra with models of the Mezquita and the Alhambra in Granada. Admission fee applicable.

Museo Arqueologico
An archaeological museum with artifacts left by people groups and conquerors in the province. Paleolithic, Neolithic, Iberain, Roman and Visigothic items share centre stage. There is also an outstanding Arabic art collection.
Calle del Marques del Villar. Admission cost applicable.

Jardines de la Victoria
Along Paseo de la Victoria.

Jardines Diego de Rivas
Along Avenida de Cervantes.
 

MARKETS
Plaza de la Corredera

OTHER AREAS
Jewish quarter
North-west of the Mezquita this winding maze of streets and plazas with whitewashed houses and flowering window boxes, takes you back into the medieval heart of the city when Jewish people once lived.

Old City
North of the Rio Gualdalquivir, a warren of narrow streets with potted plants around the Mezquita.

Hammam Banos Arabes
A good way to relax if you’ve been travellinga long time are these Arab baths of differing temperatures.
