Cordoba City Guide - Intro |

This laid back city has wonderful alleyways brimming with potted plants and tiny gardens and also houses one of Spain’s architectural wonders – the Moorish Mesquita (mosque) built in the 8th century and also a UNESCO World Heritage site. When it was built Córdoba was the biggest city in Western Europe weilding much influence over the Muslim world. There is plenty of other architecture to marvel at beyond the Mezquita particularly if you stroll through the old Arab and Jewish quarters with their narrow streets and whitewashed houses. If you want to see Cordoba’s patios, side streets and plazas at their best, visit during the Festival de los Patios Cordobeses (The Cordoba Patio Festival) in May when these places are decked out with flowers. Although really the city is alive with blooms from mid April to mid June. Cordoba is also renowned for its restaurants, nightlife and taverns. You could easily spend several days here.
