Spain’s capital is one of Europe’s most vibrant cities. While at first it may seem to lack the architectural allures of other places, it more than makes up for it with an extraordinary collection of museums, galleries, parks and gardens. Madrid also has many good restaurants, tapas bars, great live music and fantastic nightlife. Bullfights also take place here between March and October and it’s home to Real Madrid, one of the world’s most famous football teams.
Madrid has also undergone a recent facelift, that was timed to coincide with the 2012 Olympics, in which Madrid was beaten by London. The changes went ahead anyway and two new terminals were added to the Barajas airport, pedestrian and subway underpasses have been tunneled, streets widened, rail and Metro transport has been improved and Madrid has also become decidedly greener with more trees, walking and cycling lanes.
