SPECIAL EVENTS
The biggest event in Pamplona and probably the most famous in Spain is the SanFermines festival or the Running of the Bulls that takes place from 6 to 14 July every year. Watch the encierro (running) from television, a balcony (you will have to pay or ask nicely) or join the crowds below. The bulls are let out at 8am but you will need to queue much earlier for a vantage point.

To get accommodation in Pamplona during this time can be difficult and/or expensive. You will need to book well in advance and pay a substantial deposit. Locals often give out beds in their houses but it can require some negotiation for a price. Ask in the tourist office if you can’t find anything suitable. Many people also sleep in the parks, plazas or shopping malls during the festival. Leave your luggage at the bus station and any valuables. It is also possible to day trip from San Sebastian or nearby towns for the days of the festival but it’s far more fun to stay in town.

Go to the
festivals page for more festivals around Spain.
