Pamplona’s bars and restaurants have a growing reputation for superb pintxos and a healthy, lively young Basque culture. If you like food you’ll love the mix of Basque, French and Spanish cuisine in Pamplona that come in big portions.

SPECIALTY FOOD

Some specialities include:
chuletones de buey or de ternera - enormous ox or veal t-bone steaks
txistorra – a pork product like chorizo
Bull meat - particularly popular at San Fermín and especially the tail (rabos de toro estfado)
Game meat - wild boar and venison.
Wine – produce of Navarra rivals La Rioja so look out for rosados and rosés particularly but any red or white wine is good here
You will also find fish such as hake, sea bream, squid, river salmon and trout are popular. People from this region also like their legumes, red kidney beans, asparagus, tomatoes and peppers. And setas (mushrooms) are often collected wild or cultivated.
