This Basque city is most famed for its July revelries in the San Fermines or Running of the Bulls Festival and Hemmingway’s novel on which it is based (The Sun Also Rises). But if you can’t make it for the festivities don’t be dissuaded from visiting. At all other times Pamplona is still a nice place to visit with pleasant parks and a lovely old town. Pamplona is the capital of Navarra and its healthy Basque culture is one of the prime features. On the city scape there is a fine cathedral, wonderul little streets to wander and plenty of bars and restaurants in which to sample the local hearty cuisine.

Of course if you want to time your visit for San Fermines you need to be here between July 6 and 14. You should reserve your beds up to a year in advance or stay in neighbouring towns.
