CHURCHES AND TOWERS
Cathedral and La Giralda
This is the largest cathedral in the world according to the Guiness Book of Records. It was built on the site of the main Moorish mosque between 1401 and 1507. La Giralda is the adjoining tower and was the mosque’s minaret. It dates from the 12th century. You can climb to the for views over the town. Chrisher Columbus’ tomb is inside (supposedly).

Alcazar
A World Heritage monument that was the residence of Muslim and Christian royalty for many years. It began initially in the 11th century as a Moorish fortress. Highlights include Palacio de Don Pedro and the gardens.

PLAZA'S
There are numerous lovely little plaza’s in the Jewish district.
The main square in town is the Plaza Nueva.


MUSEUMS AND GALLERIES
Archivo de Indias
Documents and maps from 1492 through to the decolonisation of the America’s. Entry is free. Open weekdays only. Beside the Cathedral.

Museo de Bellas Artes
Includes a collection of Spanish art with a focus on local artists from Seville like Murillo and Zurbarian. Calle de Alfonso XII. Closed Monday. Admission cost applicable.

Museo Maritimo
Right on the river font off Paseo de Cristobal Colon

Museo Arqueologico
Collection of broken statues and bronze tablets

Museo de Artes y Costumbres Populares

 
FOUNTAINS AND GARDENS
The gardens in the Alcazar are probably the best in town.

Parque de Maria Luisa
Just south of the city centre with paths, trees, fountains and lawns. A nice respite from the busy city.

Jardines de San Telmo
Green gardens just off Paseo de las Delicias.

Mercado del Arenal
Market near the bullring on Calle de Pastor y Landero.


OTHER AREAS
Barrio de Santa Cruz
This is the old Jewish quarter east of the cathedral and Alcazar. Lots of little steets, houses and plazas.

Torre del Oro
A 12 sided tower dating from the 13th century that overlooks the river. It was originally covered with gold tiles (now gone). The tower is now a maritime museum (Museo Náutico) displaying drawings and engravings of the port of Seville.
Paseo de Cristóbal Colón

1992 Expo site
For a look at the former Expo site of 1992 cross the river from Calle de Torneo to the north west of the city centre.

Plaza de Toros de la Maestranza
This bullring is only open for the season between March and October. Tickets can be purchased from the ring itself or travel agents or tourist information centres around town. During the winter half hour tours run regularly through the bullring during the day and you can get a look at the stadium and the medical facility and a small museum under the stadium. Admission cost applicable.
