The Valencia Card (www.valenciatouristcard.com, tel. 900 70 1818) is a combined card that offers free public urban transport within zone AB and to the airport and discounts in Museums, leisure activities, shops and restaurants for periods of 24, 48 or 72 hours. They cost 10, 16, 20 euro respectively.

AIR:TO/FROM THE AIRPORT
http://www.aena.es/aeropuertos/valencia/ is the airport site but unfortunately is all in Spanish.

Iberiaflies to Valencia from Barcelona, Madrid, Málaga, and other cities. There are also flights between Palma de Majorca and Valencia. The airport is 14.5km southwest of the city. You can get a metro (line 3 or 5) to the city centre for €1.30 or a taxi for €15.

TRAIN
Estacion del Norte, Calle de Jativa, (tel. 96 352 0202 or 90 224 0202 at Calle Renfe 7am-9pm, www.renfe.es) is the main station and close to the centre of the city. Services run to all parts of Spain including Madrid, Barcelona, Alicante and Malaga. High speed trains operate to Barcelona and Madrid. Go to the RENFE website for more timetable information.

BUS
Buses run from the Estació Terminal d'Autobuses station (tel. 96-346-62-66), 2km outside of the city centre on Avenida de Menendez Pidal. It takes about 30 minutes to walk to the city centre from here. The contact number for the station is tel. 96 349 7222. A useful bus route is no. 8 which runs fom the station to Plaza del Ayuntamiento where the tourist office and city centre is. Buses run from here to Barcelona, Madrid, Malaga and Alicante.

Useful bus routes in the city include:
No. 19 – Plaza del Ayuntamiento – Valencia’s beach Malvarrosa and the Balearic Islands terminal
No. 11 – Plaza del Ayuntamiento – past the Museo de Bellas Artes
No. 8 – Plaza del Ayuntamiento – Bus station
One way fares are 1.20€ or buy a 10-ride booklet for 5.65€.

Contact the EMT office (Calle Correo Viejo 5, tel. 96-315-85-15) for route details, open Mon-Fri 9am-2pm, 4.30pm-7.30pm.

METRO

The Metro system (tel. 90-046-10-46) is the most efficient way of getting around as it covers the old town and the outskirts of the city. Tickets cost 1.30€ for one zone or you can buy a bonometro for 10 trips in the zones of your choice at a discounted rate.

TAXI

tel. 96-370-33-33.

HITCHING
Valencia should be a relatively easy place to hitch from especially to places nearby. Head to the roads leaving town.
For long journeys try the web-based ride sharing service at
http://www.europe.bugride.com

DRIVING
If you're driving south from Barcelona take the express highway (E-15). From Madrid in the northwest you can also use a national highway, E-901. From Alicante, take the E-15 express highway north. From Andalusia the roads are longer, more difficult, and not connected by express highways. It is possible to drive from Málaga north to Granada and then cut across southeastern Spain on the 342, which links with the 340 into Murcia. From there, take the road to Alicante for an easy drive into Valencia. The Barcelona-Valencia toll is 20€.

Check your hotel has parking provided. Here are some rental agencies that operate in Valencia:
Auto Europe
Hertz
Avis

MOTORCYCLE

The rental agencies above also rent motorbikes.

BIKING AND WALKING

This may be a cheaper, safer and healthier way to get around. Ask at your hotel or hostel for the nearest places to rent good bikes or do walking tours. Check out our tour pages for biking and walking holidays in Spain.

BOAT
Ferries depart for Ibiza and Palma de Majorca in the Balearic Islands regularly in summer, less so in winter. You can purchase tickets from travel agents or go straight to the port offices:
Transmediterránea, Estació Marítim, tel. 90-245-46-45
To get to the port hop on bus 4 or 19 from the Plaza del Ayuntamiento.

TICKETS
Buy tickets for local buses on board from the conductor or from newsstands or the station in advance. For long distance journeys you need to buy the ticket from the station counter.
