Some of the best places to eat in Valencia include the old streets of El Carmen, the streets around Plaza del Ayuntamiento, the pedestrianized street of Calle Mosen Femades and Las Arenas near the beach. SPECIALTY FOOD
Paella is supposed to have birthed in Paella so make sure you try it while you’re here. A good spot for it is Restaurante El Generalife (see restaurants below). Valencia is also a place where you will find a lot of sweetmeats and bakery products such as panquemados (toasted bread), Valencian doughnuts, turnovers, coconut cakes, anisette rolls, almond rosegons, egg-rings for Easter and Epiphany rings. You will commonly find bake houses and confectioner’s shops everywhere. Special drinks to try include orgeat (horchata) made from almonds and orange juice mixed with cava (Catalonian wine) called agua de Valencia. There is also a lot of wine produced around Valencia. CAFES Bar Cafeteria Olimpa, Calle de’EnLlop 2. Salads, breakfasts and tapas. Café de las Horas, Conde de Almodovar 1, tearoom with sandwiches, salads, cakes. RESTAURANTS Las Cuevas, popular subterranean restaurant on Conde de Almodovar 1 with a range of tapas. Restaurante El Generalife, Calle de los Caballeros 5 (Plaza de la Virgin). A touristy place but with fine views over the plaza and Valencian favourites such as paella.
