This town on Spain’s eastern coast has a few claims to fame – delicious paella (rice with chicken, seafood and vegetables), the Holy Grail, great weather and vibrant festivals. While some claim it is drab and industrial, it actually remains one of the most visited places on the Costa Blanca (White Coast). Millions come every year to enjoy the resorts along this coastal strip and the Muslim/Christian heritage of Valencia, sometimes hidden between modern buildings. While the warm climate does make the seaside attractive, you should make an effort to explore the city and particularly the amazing educational centre, City of the Arts and Sciences. It’s also worth heading into the interior off the coast of Sain.

One of the best times to visit Valencia is from March 12-19 for the annual festival, Las Fallas. During these festivities there are
fireworks, bonfires and processions in which the “fallas” are burned on the final day amidst fireworks and revelry. The fallas are cardboard figures depicting humorous or satirical situations. It is considered one of Spain’s best festivals.
